Hi Trollicus,

That's an interesting observation, but your experience is certainly different from mine. I know plenty of people who still use IE either at home or at work (some working for large companies).

And browser-usage stats, both general, and for sites I maintain, still show the large majority using IE.

Wow, I haven't seen anyone use IE in years (and I'm a network engineer).
I have worked for several very large companies most of them no longer use IE. Most university's I've been at recently recommend not using IE. (I do a lot of network infrastructure work at large telecoms and universities). The IE market seem to be mostly confined to the not-quite computer savvy crowd who fears any change.

Just wanted to point out that IE most certainly doesn't hold 90% of the market share (thank the lord for that!) -- it seems that people are definately starting to move towards other browsers like FireFox and Opera. This could be related to the fact that even though you have to download a hugely bigger install file, you still seem to get less out of it... do they really need to replace your explorer shell?! why not just create an extension?

What I find interesting is how even though IE has come out after said browsers and has had plenty time to steal their ideas (and attempt improvements thereon) they've still failed to truly compete... and not just IE -- a good many of the Microsoft products seem to be following this trend.

ROB, you're right that Frank seems to be confused. However, even though you typed "Kravitz" with one "v" instead of two I assume you were referring to me. I do link to this page, but I am not Tyssen.

Frank and anyone else who uses IE (6 or 7) as their primary development browser: I suggest you read these:
<a href="http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/wrongWithIE/" rel="nofollow">No, Internet Explorer did not handle it properly</a>

<a href="http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/ie7.html" rel="nofollow">Internet Explorer 7: Details of the Changes</a>

Frank, you've got it wrong. As Kravitz says, do NOT use IE, including IE7, as your initial test browser! You'll have problems upon problems if you do.

As a designer, I always see the frustration when checking perfectly good looking desings in IE. All of a sudden there are problems!

The fact is IE is very forgiving and allows things to occur that Netscape would not. So desing in Netscape and always test in IE, but then decide if it's worth the extra time to correct things that don't appear properly in IE

I agree completely. IE7 is what i use primarily. Like said in the article i code my layout in IE7 then look at it in other browsers to view the outcome.
