I don’t normally write about current news topics on this site, but I thought the implications behind the Australian Federal government’s Cyber-saftey plan are serious enough to warrant a comment.
GetUp, the community advocacy organisation giving Australians opportunities to get involved on important issues think it’s an issue serious enough to have started their own campaign against it which includes a petition to be sent to Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, the department behind the plan, and an advertising campaign to be run on websites.
No Clean Feed is another organisation that feels strongly about the issue and has a similar message and goals as GetUp.
I’ve both signed the petition and made a donation towards the funding of the campaign (the more donations they get, the more eyes they can get to see the ad). If you share my concern (and that of many others commenting on various articles) over the government’s plans, hopefully you’ll get involved.

You raise a good topic.
While I personally agree that a ‘filter’ is a good idea (in fact I have started a Business and Family Friendly Search Engine - WotUSeek.com) for the protection of children etc I do NOT agree that the WHOLE of Australia needs to be policed by one. It sounds too much like the Great Firewall of China to me.
