		<description>Well I guess in this case, an empty span is seen to have less harmful effects than using the &lt;code&gt;abbr&lt;/code&gt; element as in the current implementation of the date-design pattern while still providing the necessary information for both humans and machines to digest.</description>

In the example above I see empty nested spans......how is that pre-determined naming convention of classes can overweight this &#039;waste&#039; of elements?
