Before Tyssen Design became involved, the Fabric Studio website had information about how to order fabric, wallpaper and cushions, and a blog discussing the latest trends and collections, but no way for people to purchase online. They wanted to enable ecommerce capability on their site.
Initially, that capability was added while sticking to the original design of the site which came from a Wordpress theme. Eventually it came time to replace the original design with one which better suited the aims of the business, was more in keeping with modern ecommerce best practices, and worked on all devices.
ExpressionEngine was chosen to provide the ecommerce functionality due to the large number of products and categories, the amount of information that needed to be displayed with each product, and the shipping requirements.
With the most recent redesign, the CMS and its add-ons were upgraded, and custom add-ons were written to make it easy to select colours for each item in the control panel when creating and editing products.
The front end of the site was given a completely new design that tied in better with the quality of fabrics being offered.
The whole ordering process was reworked to provide a much more streamlined, user-friendly experience, while providing all the necessary information at each step for customers to feel confident in making purchases from the site.
The latest redesign also focused on making sure the site displayed on all devices, including phones and tablets, equally well, and also that pages loaded as quickly as possible.
